Since bio-diesel is man-made we will always have enough of it. There is a limit to the natural resources we have. Once these resources are depleted, we will never be able to use them again. Saving what we do have for future generations, is something to seriously consider.
It can be very expensive to buy a bio-diesel vehicle, and that is what often holds many consumers back from doing so. Add that to the fact that they are skeptical about vegetable oil being a suitable fuel on which to run a vehicle. However, it is dangerous for us as a society to get too comfortable with the status quo which would be a great hindrance to the advancement of alternative energy sources for our planet. But this does not mean that even if you are planning to buy used japanese car, this is a no to bio-diesel – there are always smart people on this planet that can help.

If I may. Being involved on a tdicurious.ca, a canadian VW blog about the TDI, I’d like to clarify a point here. The statement that mentions that “all of the Volkswagen models can be purchased with the bio-diesel option” is not accurate.
First, Biodiesel fuel can only be used in a Diesel engine.
Second, the new Jetta TDI Clean Diesel does not require a conversion as suggested in the article, it’s ready to support the use of B5 Biodiesel.
Here’s an excerpt from the 2009 MY Jetta Sedan Owners Manual, that states VW position in this topic:
Bio-Diesel
B5 Bio-diesel (5% Bio-diesel) is permitted as well.
Bio-diesel is a fuel, designated as B100, which meets ASTM D6751 and is comprised of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oil or animal fats. This fuel is blended with regular No.2 diesel into several concentrations, B5, B11, B20, (B=Bio 5=%).
Diesel fuel with a higher concentration than ULSD-Diesel No. 2 ASTM D975 and Bio-diesel with a higher concentration than 5%like B11, B20 or B100 are strictly prohibited.
